2014-03-27

写作

Integrated Task:

Reading: the settlement of European Americans caused the decline of the basin population

1) Those settlers lived on the basin for food

2) Those settlers brought with them horses and cattle that would compete the grassland with the basin

3) Those settlers developed their repeating guns which could kill the basin more effectively

Listening: the reading exaggerates the effect

1) The decline pattern of the basin population was not consistent with the settlement of the European Americans: they began to settle in the east whereas the fall of the basin number started with the west

2) The basin is highly capable of living in harsh and cold areas where those horses and cattle cannot survive because the basin have double-coated fur and particular shapes of head

3) The traditional weapon used by Native Americans are as effective as the new weapon and a skilled arrow shooter could hunt for the basin more efficiently

Independent Task:

Do you agree or disagree?

High school students should take at least one year to work or travel after they graduate and before they enter universities.

Introduction: whether high school graduates should take a gap year before entering college

Agree

Body 1: enrich their knowledge——learn something they would never learn from books——medical practice in a hospital

Body 2: sharpen their communication skills——deal with different kinds of people in work or travel——necessary for university life and future career

Body 3: train how to think critically and independently——the ability to considerate everything and plan well——decide route and make rational decisions when traveling

Conclusion: high school students should work or travel for at least a year to make themselves more knowledgeable, socially-skilled, and highly capable of critical and independent thinking.

1 Independent Task: Describe a new activity you will do in the future.

2 Independent Task: Do you agree or disagree? It is better to be a group member than a leader.

3 Integrated Task:

Reading: the university is going to set a new course teaching learning skills such as writing methods and research techniques. The course will be taught in small classes.

Listening: the male student supports the plan for two reasons. One is that the course will help students know basic skills like how to write a paper; the other is that smaller classes permit students to have more opportunities to interact with their professors and ask more questions.

4 Integrated Task:

Reading: Composite signaling (interpret animals’ message through a combination of their various behaviors)

Listening: the professor uses his dog’s erecting its ears at different situations to show the concept. The dog was noticed to perk up its ears and bark when it saw a big truck and heard the loud noise; it also erected its ears when it saw the neighbor’s dog. This time the dog also wailed its tails. That means happiness rather than irritation.

5 Integrated Task:

The female student doesn’t have a tent. She has two solutions: either to borrow an old one from her friend or to buy a new one.

6 Integrated Task:

The two benefits brought about by weeds to crops: to hold the fertile soil and prevent it from being flushed away by water; to prevent the plant from being attacked by insects

The professor uses the coffee as an example.

2 讲座: 生物类——传粉学(palynology)主要叙述了这种学科的作用:how to understand a society, how to date certain events, and how to know the climate change

5 讲座: 天文学——探索exoplanets的两种方法:探测radio velocity和the chemical of atmosphere
