Spending a year working or traveling can providepsychological and physical benefits for students, as it deviates from theconventional norm. Nonetheless, this phenomenon has the potential to inflictharmful financial and social repercussions.
Body
Taking a gap year can broaden one’s worldview by traveling tonew and exciting places, communicating with various individuals andexperiencing the real world. Furthermore, it can give students a much-neededrelaxation break, after studying for more than a decade in their primary,middle and secondary school educational lives. In this way, pupils will havemore energy and willingness to enter university studies, making their collegeexperience more enriching and educational. Moreover, through traveling orworking, youngsters have the opportunity to learn more about themselves andunderstand what exactly they would like to pursue in the future.
Working for a year-long period with merely a high schooldiploma doesn’toffer the best potential opportunities for students. Although they are able togain some on-the-job experience, their salaries will be much lower than if theycontinuously remain in school and seek work after obtaining an undergraduate orgraduate degree. In terms of their ages, these students will be one year olderthan most of their counterparts, making it more difficult to compete with theirfellow classmates after graduating. Additionally, taking a gap year to travelcould cost a large sum and place a financial burden on the family, not tomention be stressful and waste a lot of time.

Despite the positive and negative aspects of taking a gapyear, students need to decide if it could provide a situation where theadvantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages.
